Cuno was founded by Charles Cuno in 1912 as a manufacturer for automobile parts. Over time, they had grown successful with their lines of engine and hydraulic metal filters. By the 1960s, filtration and separation technology of all kinds became Cuno’s primary focus.
In the mid-1980s, Cuno was put in charge of fluid purification for Commercial Intertech, an industrial hydraulics company based in Youngstown, OH. Cuno, Incorporated went public in 1996 and in 2005 was acquired by 3M. 3M has since used Cuno’s experience in producing their own lines of water and air furnace filters. Cuno currently produces refrigerator water filters for LG, Amana, Bosch, Aqua-Pure, and Samsung.
