"What is lead?" Lead is a dull, grey metal that's heavy, yet soft enough to be scratched by something as common as a household key. It is a very potent neurotoxin that can build up in your bones or soft tissues. Typically, it gets into drinking water through the corrosion of old pipes and fittings in your plumbing system.
