The Aqua Fresh WF285 Filter removes the following impurities from your drinking water:

• 99.30% of Lead at pH 6.5
• 99.90% of Lead at pH 8.5
• 94.50% of Mercury at pH 6.5
• 96.60% of Mercury at pH 8.5
• 99.92% of Asbestos
• 89.60% of Benzene
• 99.90% of P-Dichlorobenzene
• 99.99% of Cysts
• 98.70% of Carbofuran
• 97.00% of Chlorine
• 99.10% of Turbidity
• 97.60% of Particulates (Class I)

As with all built-in refrigerator water filters, the WF-285 does not remove Fluoride

The AquaFresh WF285 should be replaced every 6 months or when the "change filter" light comes on - whichever comes first.

Installing your new water filter:

1. Twist the old filter a quarter-turn counterclockwise
2. Pull the filter straight out (don't worry, the water will shut off automatically)
3. Remove the reusable color-keyed knob from the end
4. Discard the old filter
5. Slide the knob onto the end of the new filter
6. Push the new filter into the fridge until it stops
7. Twist the filter a quarter-turn clockwise
8. Reset your "change filter" light (if your fridge has one)

Resetting your "change filter" light:

• Press the light switch (the one that the refrigerator door presses every time you close the door) 5 times within 10 seconds.

OR

• If the fridge has a filter button, press and hold it for 5-10 seconds.

Factors include: Flow rate, capacity (filter life), micron rating, etc. Filtering material - carbon block, granular carbon, pleated paper, etc. The type of contaminants removed by the filter - Chlorine, Lead, Cysts, etc. The number of different contaminants removed The percentage reduction of each contaminant Materials used to make the housing Tightness of seams, quality of o-rings, etc. Certification by an independent agency - ANSI, NSF, WQA, etc. Length of manufacturers warranty, Good Housekeeping seal of approval, etc. Detailed installation instructions on the filter label, box, or both Country of manufacture - USA, Mexico, Taiwan, China, etc.	(more info) The Aqua-Fresh filter removes quite a few impurities, but we lowered its rating because it's not certified, the filter is rough in places, the edges aren't very crisp, and the plastic has a "recycled feel" to it. The label isn't quite straight, and almost looks like it was applied by hand. If those details don't bother you, it's hard to find a better bargain.	(more info) The 4396508 should fit perfectly since Whirlpool Engineers designed both the filter system and the filter cartridge - there's no guesswork here. A longer list of impurities would be nice, but that's what the 4396510 is for. Great way to save a few bucks and still get the Whirlpool name.	(more info) Like the 4396508, the 4396510 should be a perfect fit for your fridge. The filter removes more impurities than the 4396508 - including Asbestos, Cysts, and some herbicides. A great, no-compromise, genuine Whirlpool filter.
